Re: Attach a nonpersistent virtual disk to multiple running vms
Hi Lightning47, and welcome to the VMware Communities!
Would Workstation's Shared Folders suit your requirements? You can share folders between multiple VMs as well as the host; Just make sure that they don't end up writing to files that other VMs are trying to read, otherwise things might get tangled – or you will end up with an error message for a sharing conflict.
Multi-writer disks are not supported on Workstation or Fusion, only on ESXi, and they are delicate and finicky beasts, requiring specific support from the guest OS and great care to set up correctly so that each VM doesn't clobber the filesystem data structures written by the "others". You probably don't want or truly need multi-writer disks unless you have an extremely interesting and unusual workload... or an academic interest in multi-writer disks.

Fusion Pro 11.5.5 on Mac OS Catalina 10.15.5 external Monitor/Display after sleep not working
hi all,
it seems to be an old bug but it's back again, and I found no solution only restart helps....(and this on macOS... like a MS system)
MacBook Pro 13" 2016 / four thunderbolt 3 ports
Graphics: Intel Iris Graphics 550
macOs: 10.15.5
behaviour running VMware Fusion no matter which OS inside (in my case centOS) after send macOS to sleep (closing the lid) a reopen and connect to the same USB-C
does restore the external screen (It stays black, app's are running on the screen !) sometimes changing the side of connecting the external screen recovers the monitor/display
but NOT always
restart always helps...
is there a solution for this problem, like this Fusion is not usable

Re: new vcenter install
Many services do not start in the old vcenter. now i have installed new vcenter and found our vDS backup . In which order will I add the servers? Do I need to install the latest vds backup file after adding Esxi. how will the ranking be? I don't want my virtual machines to shut down, or any cuts. I will install a new vcenter and I have a vds backup file
Re: Can't update/re-install VMware Tools for WIN 10
Hi, electricarts
What is the version and build number of the VMware Tools please?
It could be found by Right Click on the VMware Tools icon > About VMware Tools.
C:\Users\vmware>"c:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\VMwareToolboxCmd.exe" -v
A.B.C.XXX (build-YYYYYYY)
Re: disks spinning up and down
First of all, thanks for your answer!
My budget is limited, so that is why I went this way.
I tried the command "/etc/init.d/smartd stop" and then started the disk enclosure, but the disks still spin up and down.
Isn't passthrough of USB devices officially supported? I specifically went that way, as it is available via the GUI, so I thought supported.
My first idea was to buy a small NAS (Synology, QNAP, ... ) but:
- I don't like those OS'es (bugs, crappy GUIs, missing features, limited lifetime support, ...)
- You can't snapshot/backup them in a good way
- You are stuck with their OS, and can't switch to something else.

Re: VM removed from vCenter
Really?
I have now posted a working script and shown you where the issue with your code is, but you apparently won't listen or correct your code.
Sorry, I have better things to do then keep repeating myself to someone who will not read or listen.
Re: Anyone actively using/testing FSlogix?
We are running Veeam backup of the server that hosts the VHDX files. Our VDI's are set so they are logged off after 2 hours of disconnection to force the users log off their sessions regularly. So during the backup, most VHDX files are not in use.
I've already done some tests with restoring VHDX files (both used and unused during backup) and they seem to be fine. Most important is that the security on the VHDX is set correctly or you'll get an access denied when opening the profile.
I've had concerns in the beginning too, that's why I started off with differencing disks, so the parent disk is always "unused" during backup. However we've had some issues with the Shrinkfsl tool to compress those VHDX (has been solved in the meantime) and as the restore of in-use VHDX seems to work fine, we reverted backup to direct-access VHDX.
On the other hand, there's not much "critical" data inside those VHDX. The ODFC contains only cached data that is completely recoverable, folders like Documents, Pictures, ... are redirected, so at the end only user "settings" (and lots of crap) remain in the profile container. In a User Experience way of cource, this is very important.

Re: Can't update/re-install VMware Tools for WIN 10
Hey zhaokaiy,
thanks for your reply!
There is no VMware folder in Program Files (anymore). With all these attempts to fix the problem, this entire folder has probably been deleted.

vCenter will auto restart
Hello All,
Environment: Window Server 2012 R2 + vCenter Server 6.5 installed on HP DL180 Gen9.
HP server auto restarted from last Friday, it work normal several hours after restart. But the CPU will suddenly consume 100% caused by Java which used by vmon.exe; I cannot login the webclient and everything is stuck. Then server will auto restart anytime.
the related event log as below:
An unrecoverable problem has occurred, stopping the VMware VirtualCenter service. Error: Error[VdbODBCError] (-1) "ODBC error: (HY000) - internal savepoint error in libpq_bind_and_exec" is returned when executing SQL statement "UPDATE VPX_HOST SET MASTER_GEN = ? WHERE ID = ?"
Any idea fix the issue ? thank you!!

Niki

Does Enabling VCSA HA Cause Outage?
I've looked at documentation but haven't found a clear answer. I have a primary VCSA 6.7 that I want to enable HA on to get those benefits. However, I have not found if the process causes any sort of outage for vCenter.
I'd like to do this during a time of my choosing, but that requires a confirmation to management of no outage. If I can't give that assurance, then I'll have to schedule it during a standard outage window that is inconvenient to me.
Does anyone know? Have you performed the process and can confirm one way or the other?
TIA
