Thanks! The SHA checksums are indeed different so looks like you're right. I had thought SFTP would be better than uploading to ESXi in the browser. Any recommendations on better way to upload them? I'm surprised there is so much trouble copying them correctly.

Guests (Mint 19.3 and MS-Windows 10) on Linux (19.3) hosts no longer have drag 'n drop or cut & paste support for files after upgrade to 15.5.5
The title pretty much makes the point. I am working around the problem by using shared folders, which do work between the guest and host.
When doing a d&d or c&p, the Error while copying dialog detail says 'Error when getting information for file "Zsv1YQ/<filename>": No such file or directory'I
It appears to be one-way. I can move TO the guest, but not TO the host.
This is reproducible. I've restarted the systems, I've restarted (/etc/init.d/vmware restart) on the host, and restarted vmware-tools on the guest. Nothing has resolved the problem.
All of this was working fine prior to the upgrade (from 15.5.2).

Another problem with 15.5.5 - not the keyboard issues, BSODs installing x86 editions of Windows
With Windows 10 2004 now generally available, I'm setting up a few reference Win 10 2004 reference systems, both x64 and x86 in VMware.
I'm finding that very early in the setup process, I'm getting frequent BSODs when I attempt to install Win 10 x86 editions. It doesn't happen every single time but has happened multiple time during the first few screens of setup, before I even get to the point where Windows starts copying files.
Note that I have not yet seen issues with x64 editions.
Here is my configuration:
Host computer:
HP Spectre x360 15-BL012DX laptop computer
Intel Core i7-7500U Processor (Kaby Lake)
32GB RAM
Seagate 1TB FireCuda 510 NVMe SSD
Intel HD Graphics 620 and Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics with a 4k 15-inch display
Windows 10 Pro 2004 (final released build)
Again, the guest OS being installed is Windows 10 Pro 2004 x86.
Is this a known issue with 15.5.5? I've never run into it before, but there have been 2 major changes - Upgraded from Win 10 1909 to 2004 and VMware 15.5.2 to 15.5.5.

I'm not sure how you create the OVA package, but you can define properties for an OVA.
Then when you import the OVA to a VM, you provide values for those properties.
These properties stay with the Template when you convert the VM to a Template.

My VM is running Extremly Slow and even not working after reinstalling Windows
I reinstaled Windows 10 on my laptop and after getting all the apps back I decided to run Windows 8 on my VM but it did not boot as the same for the other, in the end I launched Windows Vista and after 1 hour it booted but not correctly and it was barely responding so I had to shut it down
I remember something similar happend last time I reinstalled Windows but it gave me a error message then and now I don't even have that..
What caused this and how do I repair it?

Collector not starting anymore (V2.4.0)
Hi,
I just recognized that our collector is "inactive" in the Console and so I tried restarting it. I stumbled across the network bug and fixed it, but I am still not able to get the collector running.
I found the following interesting things in the logs:

How about using "virtual disk on the virtual disk"? If you are using Windows OS guest, try to install another OS to a VHD file in your guest and boot from it. It can pass some tests.

It depends on your network design. You can think of it like VLAN. You can put tenants in 1 VLAN, for example using private VLAN. Or you can have VLANs dedicated for 1 tenant.
Overlay network is the same concept, the only difference is overlay network is encapsulated to be forwarded through any IP connectivity.

VMWare ESXI on HP Proliant server
Good Morning all,
I have recently been tasked to get a lab esxi setup running.
I have a HP Proliant DL180 G6 server to my disposal. I have registered on the vmware site and gotten the free license for ver 7.
The issue that I have is that none of the normal downloads (ver 7 and 6.7) are compatible with my hardware. I have also tried to install ver 4 to no avail.
I have now installed the HP images (ver 6) successfully but it did not offer me a free license? and I am not sure if the normal ver 6 free license key will work with the ver 6 HP custom ESXI.

This is going to be tricky to debug, since you changed 3 variables at the same time: host OS, WS version and guest OS.
I'd start from the guest OS first. Have you tried installing a different OS as guest, e.g. Win7 or a Linux mainstream distro? If these work normally, then the host and WS installation are OK, and Win10 2004 just hates being a slave in a VM.
If these guests also have the problem, then we must check the other two variables.

Re: Safely upgrade Workstation from very old version
I find daphnissov's advice very careful and sound - the #1 principle is to never mess with/upgrade a production system, especially when there is only one instance of it. I am sure you can find a second PC/laptop and do all the experiments in that: Install your desired OS and Workstation version, copy the Linux VM there and try booting it. If it doesn't work, you can afford experimenting with that 2nd PC until you find the cause. The first system will always be there, working at it always has.

VMWare Workstation Player installation failure in Ubuntu 18.04.4 host
I have installation failing in ubuntu 18.04. 15.5.2 installation worked without problems but can't upgrade to 15.5.5 (to enable ubuntu host upgrade to 20.0.4)

i've configured the connection with SCEP.
The name of the CA needs the be the same as the name of the active CA defined in ejbca.
the scep url = http://EJBCA_SERVER/ejbca/publicweb/apply/scep/SCEPALIAS/pkiclient.exe
The static challenge = the enrollment code , so write it down as for each certificate the enrollment code needs to be the same.

Very strange findings, I'd suggest waiting a bit and reading the recent topics describing the 15.5.5 keyboard problems. Most people use the "enhanced keyboard driver" while I don't, so I have not noticed any problems myself and can't help much.
Regarding the "per-user settings" I guess they mean settings in Preferences.ini - read sanbarrow.com (and bookmark the site - it's a treasure trove for VMware information)

Migrating from 5.1 to 7.0
Hello Everybody.
I have a system on 5.1 with 3x ESXi and 20 virtual machines attached from a SAN. I want to create a new system on 7.0 with new licence for it with same configuration as a old one on new servers. The old servers want be used any more as ESX-s.
What are the best practices.
Can vm-s be upgraded from version 9 to 17.
