Hello,

 

Can you show your cloud.cfg file ? And a sample of your blueprint ?

 

Did you installed the last version of cloud-init ?

Did you enabled cloud-init services ? Example : "systemctl enable cloud-init-local.service cloud-init.service cloud-config.service cloud-final.service"

Did you configured your network interface in DHCP mode ?

Did you run the command "cloud-init clean" after finishing your config ?

Did you configure you CD-ROM as passtrough mode ?

 

I believe these questions can help you to debug.

vRA 8.1 Pricing Card Calculation

I’m currently evaluating the new pricing card functionality in vRA 8.1 in our test environment. Our production environment is still on vRA 7.6 and the price calculation is done with vRB. Since vRB is not supported any more with 8.x, we need a new way to do our billing for which we are using the showback and daily reports of vRB.

 

The integration of vRA 8.1 with vROps 8.1 is working from both sides. The pricing cards are showing the currency configured in vROps and I can see the prices on the deployments. The metering metrics in vROps are visible too and the calculation looks quite right.

 

What I’m currently missing is the grade of detail which the vRB showback and daily reports are offering. For example:

 

  • Daily uptime in minutes and monthly uptime in hours (VM powered on/off calculation)
  • Visibility of configuration changes (added/reduced CPU, RAM, storage)
  • Additional charges breakdown (Guest OS, tag based calucation)
  • Calculation for deleted machines (e.g. VMs deleted in the middle of the month still needs to be charged)

 

Is there anything available in vRA or vROPs to get this grade of detail for the calculation? Currently it seems like a black box which is only coming up with values for each day summed up for cpu, memory, storage, additional charges (combined) and total price.

Ah! OK! have to think on that one.

We have some control over the way OVFs are defined and generated, but delivery of these has already started, so to make a change to the requirements for delivery now might be a challenge.

The import of the OVFs into the system however is our own process, so that might be the best place to embed the information we want.

At present VMware only supports 6.5 and later.

So better install/deploy a VCSA 7.0 directly as you have only 3 ESXi's .

Make sure to check all the hardware for support on 7.0 . VMware Compatibility Guide - System Search

 

ESXi upgrade path ESXi 5.1 > 6.0 U2 > 6.5/6.7 > 7.0 . Quite a long one .

Simultaneously update the VM hardware versions to the ESXi versions to which you upgrade .

I'm afraid you can't add properties when you import the OVF.

Then a Tag or a Custom Attribute would be the next best bet.


Or eventually the name, but that has drawbacks because the TemplateName is not propagated to the VMs you deploy from that Template.

yes - the fre license also works with the customized iso. the customized iso only has additional vendor-specific drivers and tools.

but your dl 180 g6 is not on the hcl, that means never tested for any esxi-version. so use at your own risk if it works or not

How to extend the size of local datastore on esxi 6.5 hosts. Currently the size of the local datastore is 10 GB and we want to make it to 15 GB.

 

Is it possible and does it require reboot?

Pass variable from XAAS Blueprint to a Composite Blueprint simialr to property binding

Hello All,

 

Need some advise/suggestion with the below:

 

We have a XAAS blueprint which creates a network port group in vcenter and creates the associated network profile and reservation as well. We want to provision a new machine after the network is provisioned by the XAAS blueprint. The goal is to achieve a single click deployment so we want to pass the network value that got created using the XAAS blueprint to the Composite Blueprint during VM deployment something similar to what we do using property binding in composite blueprints. Is there a way to achieve this? Please advise.

ESXi 6.0 розовый экран

Приветствую! На сервере DELL PowerEdge R730xd установлена VMware ESXi 6.0.0 build-3568940. Сегодня утром обнаружили, что сетевой обменник с виртуалки недоступен, при попытке подключиться через VMware vSphere Client получили ответ, что сервер недоступен. Через удалённый доступ DELL удалось увидеть розовый экран смерти, после перезагрузки сервера система загрузилась нормально. Анализирую логи, в vmkwarning смущают следующие строки:

Я так подозреваю это вызвало розовый экран? Подскажите, в какую сторону копать и кто виноват?

Thanks for the information.

Small correction it is ldp.exe not lpd.exe

The tool can connect to the AD servers from a Windows server on port 636, but that doesn't mean I can access them from vCenter on port 636.

Is there any way to test this via the remote console?

Hi Tobi,

 

NSX-T has several components: management plane, control plane, and data plane.

 

NSX-T Manager holds a role of management plane, and centralized control plane. Some components are deployed in ESXi Host, we call it NSX Agent. This NSX Agent plays a role of control plane, and data plane. There is a component in NSX Agent, called MPA, to report the status back to Management Plane.

 

Back to your question: Does NSX-T transmit data to V-Center or other vmware services?

The MPA component is the ESXi host will communicate with management plane component in NSX-T Manager. The centralized control plane is communicating with control plane component in the ESXi Host. So vCenter is not in the path; the communication is direct from ESXi host to NSX-T Manager. vCenter role is to automate the installation of NSX Agent, to distribute it in the ESXi host in particular cluster.

I had exactly same issue with my new computer with Ryzen 7 3700x CPU.

 

Finally I found the workaround on my system. the problem was when I had installed any services related to Hyper-V.

If you have Hyper-V or  security service that using Microsoft Defender Application Guard, remove them all and reboot you system.

That should fix your problem. I'm wondering if that Vanguard application might also uses similar virtualization service under the hood.

For the past couple of hours I have been doing that - eliminating variables. I reverted back to VMware 15.5.2 and absolutely hammered on it, installing in precisely the same manner as before. There are no problems in 15.5.2. So, that pretty much leaves only one item - VMware Workstation Pro 15.5.5.

but i also wrote that ldapsearch can test from the vcsa - just ssh into the vcsa and test

Vmplayer 15.5.5 Upgrade ends with Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system

Dear All,

Can anybody help please?

 

Context: WIN10 Pro 1909 -- OS Build 18363.836 (latest patches installed)

Issue: Upgrade VMware-player-15.5.2-15785246 to VMware-player-15.5.5-16285975

ends with error message “Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system”

Situation: V15.5.2 has been running perfectly for months without any problems. Yesterday VMware Player proposed to upgrade to V15.5.5.

This ended in a complete nightmare:

1. The upgrade ended with the message “Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system”

2. And started a rollback ending with the message

“VMware Workstation 15 Player setup was interrupted. Your system has not been modified.

To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again.

Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard.”

3. … Your system has not been modified … : NOT True! The previous version was completely removed and the NIC was broken! So, no network anymore!

4. After 3 hours of testing I uninstalled my VPN program,  which activated the NIC again.

5. Manually trying to reinstall V15.5.2 or V15.5.5 gave each time “Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system

6. I cleared manually the registry and removed all entries on disk mentioning vmware

          Btw, VMware-player-15.5.2-15785246.exe /clean does not work!

7. I ran VMware-player-15.5.2-15785246.exe and VMware-player-15.5.5-16285975.exe as administrator

8. System Restore to previous version failed

9.I lost a complete day testing and trying, and the result is that VMware Player cannot be installed anymore

 

Question: How to repair the message “Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system”
