Yes - I try to make a living from that kind of problems but it hardly pays the bills
Re: Should we create a single LUN with 14TB in size ?
vmkfstools issue: Unable to clone using -i flag - DISKLIB-LIB_CLONE : Failed to clone : Data corruption detected (2567).
We are trying to migrate a vm from RHEL environment to VMware environment. The source file/image is qcow2 format. The source disk/file is not having any filesystem corruption as evidenced by "fsck". The qemu-img conversion is used to convert it to an intermediary vmdk image. This intermediary image is converted/clone to a final bootable VMware vmdk image using the vmkfstools.
Command Used:
vmkfstools -v5 -i <servername>.tmp.vmdk -d thin <servername>.vmdk
Message displayed:
DISKLIB-LIB_CLONE : Failed to clone : Data corruption detected (2567).
Failed to clone disk: Data corruption detected (2567).
Any help is appreciated.
ghost vcenter link
I just migrated an windows 5.5 vcenter to 6.5u2 which went fine.
When I log into the new vcenter is has a message at the top Could not connect to one of more vCenter Server systems - then a name of a vcenter that does not exist.
The vcenter I am logging into is OK showing all hosts & clusters. This is a new environment for me - someone told me that was an old linked vcenter?
Re: Powercli Script to Capture Cluster utilization
Each vcenter got only 1 vSAN datstore. But also each vcenter got a service datastore for each host. I only need to collect the capacity for vsan

new-datastore cmdlet w/vmfs6?
Hello,
It seems that the new-datastore cmdlet in esxi 6.5 defaults to vmfs 5. I don't see any parameter to create a new datastore using vmfs 6, can anyone help?
Re: REST HOST configuration in vRO failing with "cannot find function getCertificateAuthorities in object DynamicWrapper"
Hi,
the VRO version is 7.4.x . the version of workflow " Library/configuration/SSL Trust Manager/import a certificate from URL" is 1.0.2
how do I get the workflow 2.0.0 or newer ?
Health Analyzer Unable to generate report
I recently installed the health analyzer onto a new Windows 10 laptop. When attempting to generate a report from the Health Analyzer I receive an error. Unable to generate report See application report for more information. There is no data available in the application log. Any suggestions?
Re: new-datastore cmdlet w/vmfs6?
Sorry, just notice the -filesystem parameter, in this case would it be -filesystem 6 ?
Re: Script to attach VMware tools and HW version update baselines to a set of VMs (from csv file)?
Looks like the $ESXI variable is empty.
Does this actually return anything?
How to get the particular job details from the converter sdk
converterSDK sample has List operation which gets the list of tasks and jobs.
getJobHistory in converterConnection gets the all the jobs till the count is given . Instead is there any method to fetch a particular job details.
_converterService.converterReadNextConversionJobs(jobCollector, jobs) => this is declared in converterPortType.java
In converterPortType.java there are few job lines . Will that be useful to fetch the particular job infromation. If so, how to specify the ManagedObjectReference of conversionJob?
public com.vmware.converter.ConverterServerConversionConversionJobInfo converterServerConversionManagerGetJobInfo(com.vmware.converter.ManagedObjectReference _this, com.vmware.converter.ManagedObjectReference conversionJob)
public com.vmware.converter.ConverterServerConversionConversionJobSpec converterServerConversionManagerGetJobSpec(com.vmware.converter.ManagedObjectReference _this, com.vmware.converter.ManagedObjectReference conversionJob)
Re: new-datastore cmdlet w/vmfs6?
Yes, use -FileSystemVersion 6 on the New-Datastore cmdlet.
Re: VMware Fusion 11
Do you have a link to the Tech Preview? Thx!

Scrub that requestion I found the link... Fusion Tech Preview 2018 Available for Testing - VMware Fusion Blog - VMware Blogs
Re: Should we create a single LUN with 14TB in size ?
No - Thanks a lot. I am just wondering what the odds of this actually happening are. I read something about people having VMFS issues if they created dozens of snapshots across the same VM, etc. but starting to think that corruption of VMFS 5 or 6 is extremely rare to the point it is not a big of concern as it was 10 years ago with VMFS 3, etc. If someone responded and was saying "Yes - It happened to me with VMFS 5 and it was a disaster" then I would feel better about making decisions around avoiding those problems, but not finding much.
I know it happens, but thinking it is extremely rare and mostly with older SANs. Still looking for more examples, but if anyone has any recent stories in the past few years with newer hardware/VMFS, I would like to hear about it.
Re: Script to attach VMware tools and HW version update baselines to a set of VMs (from csv file)?
I have a three host cluster in use, which is why I used the cluster name. We also have a datastore cluster in effect. No resource pools are present.
Re: VMware Fusion 11
I'd expect to see a release announcement very shortly given that Apple gave a GA date. Haven't seen the gold master for macOS yet, but would expect that next week if not sooner.
Re: VSAN 6.6.1 - Erasure Coding - Deduplication and Compression
Hello Lalegre,
Response to PM (sharing here in case it helps anyone else understand what to look at/for):
"And what if i don't have any of both scenarios, if i check with RVC i don't have any "proportionalCapacity" unless i specify it on the Policy."
If it has no proportionalCapacity parameter defined it should be thin - you should be able to easily check this by comparing the usage of the data components and the (max ever used IIRC) in-guest disk usage e.g. if I make a Thick 1TB FTT=1 FTM=RAID1 vmdk it will be composed of 5x R0 200GB components per R1 mirror, but if I make this Thin each component would be tiny (until you add data to it); you can compare this for some Objects with each FTM applied - FTT=1 FTM=RAID1 OSR=0 should be ~200% the max used disk space as presented to the guest-OS, FTT=1 FTM=RAID5 OSR=0 should be ~133%.
So your screenshot looks to have something up with it e.g. before with FTT=1 FTM=RAID1 is 36TB used so 18TB by 1.33 is 24TB not 33.6TB - are you 100% not-a-shadow-of-a-doubt that no data was FTT=0 before making them FTT=1 RAID5? If you have output of python /usr/lib/vmware/vsan/bin/vsan-health-status.pyc from before and after then should be able to determine this.
Anyway, so less dedupe ratio aswell could be from parity data not deduping as well (not positive) or just the new placement of the data on the disk-groups has less commonality than it had.
"Also the total space consumed by the VMs is 8 TB"
What do you mean here specifically? (e.g how are you calculating this and where)
Bob
Re: I have less available space on my macOS host machine every time I do a Clean Up Virtual Machine
Make sure your virtual machine folder is explicitly excluded from time machine, otherwise it'll snapshot the files. Since time machine doesn't work for VM's it should be excluded anyway.

What's the guest and host CPU and RAM configuration?
