Re: if a firewall rule is applied to a security group, which is composed of an ip set, this rule will not be implemented.

Hi DaleCoghlan,

Thank you for your explanation. I understand what you mean.

What happened to me was that I applied a firewall rule to a security group containing ip-sets. My customer complained to me that it didn't work. It took me some days to find out. I hope that vmware team can get it fixed, at least give an online warning, so other people would not repeat the mistake.

Best regards

Liu

Yes, the storage params are tricky moreover with LVM, the IDs are dynamic and hard to predict for general description before conversion as you want.

I'll recommend not to bother storage params and make the conversion via SDK successful.

After than you'll need to make investigation of the result and changes the storage params appropriately.

There are no plans to extend SDK samples in near future.

Virtual machine sometimes very slow to restart after suspended

Hi,

I'm running Windows with VMWare Fusion 8 on a Macbook Pro with High Sierra.  Sometimes the virtual machine is very slow to restart

after suspending. I don't know why. It can take up to five minutes or more. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

In this day and age, waiting 5 minutes or so seems rather excessive.

Hi Dear,

Helpful link, but i am still finding a document or article which they mention that NSX 6.4.2 per example supported with Embedded Linked mode.

if exist i appreciate your help.

I know when VMware mention that NSX 6.4.2 supported with vsphere 6.7 and also recommended, so supported with all features. but i need this message if exist.

MIgrate to VC5.5 first & then using vcsa migration assistant tool, will migrate to VC 6.5

Hi,

This community is focused on the vSphere Client's extensibility. You'd get more answers in the general VMware vSphere™ community or the vSphere Management SDK forum.

Cannot Set BIOS Boot Order Using VIM25 API From C#

$

(I did find a reference to a similar post about this from 2013 but no answers AFAICT and no code https://code.vmware.com/forums/2416/vsphere-management-sdk#463881|2319617)

I am using the C# (targetting 4.5 .NET) bindings for the VIM25 API and I am trying to set the boot order.

The code snippet is:

cfgSpec.bootOptions = new VirtualMachineBootOptions();
cfgSpec.bootOptions.bootOrder = new VirtualMachineBootOptionsBootableDevice[1];
cfgSpec.bootOptions.bootOrder[0] = new VirtualMachineBootOptionsBootableCdromDevice();
tmor = Service.ReconfigVM_Task(vmRef, cfgSpec);

The ReconfigVM_Tasl fails with an error about incorrect paramter.

The VM in question does have a CD/DVD device attached on IDE 1:0 and the ISO image has been attached via another API call.

Looking for any ideas why this would be the case?

Thanks

No, unfortenately not. You can add a prefix afterwards but it can only be 1. You can change it if needed

We asked for the same feature with appstacks but it seemed to be quite difficult to do that or build that into the application.

While they are at it an exclude would also be great .

Nested virtualization on Workstation 14 PRO on AMD Ryzen

Hello to all, I'm trying to build my own home lab for VMware solution testing, mainly to learn about the technologies and how to get arround them (install, configure, manage kind of stuff).

My setup is as follows:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 1700X, MB: Asrock X370 Taichi UEFI 4.80, 64 GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro with Workstation 14 pro installed atop of it (latest patches on both OS and workstation).

I am able to install a virtual ESXi host (6.5U2) on top of the setup and it runs OK. But when I create a VM on top of this virtual ESX when the VM starts and after it tries to boot, the VM crashes and just powers off. Sometimes it goes through boot OK and starts to load the iso, but then the whole virtual ESX crashes. I tried importing a VM from template to the virtual ESX, but this has the same results.

I tried a couple of UEFI version on the MB, different OS versions and Workstation versions, different OS iso files, but the results are still the same. I have another Intel based PC at home (old i5) and that one works OK and is able to run nested virtualization without any problem (same SW setup).

Is this some limitation of the architecture, or is nested virtualization simply not allowed on Ryzen CPUs? Any way arround it, other than selling this setup and buying a new one?

Hi,

Did you give the server enough memory?

Here what i have done:

PS C:\Users\NT.OCAP> New-HardDisk -VM $vm -DiskPath "[VD-VM1-v002] TEMP/IPEARS_1.vmdk" New-HardDisk : 12/09/2018 09:30:27 New-HardDisk No matching datastore found. Hi, yes - ESXi 24 GB RAM, nested test VM 4 GB RAM.

Re: Trigger logoff from msft RDP client in linked clone???

Hi,

No there is no problem with the H client except for the fact that we can't use it in this use case.

I think I'll use a scheduled task script to look for any disconnected (for example 2 hours) vm and trigger a refresh or delete...

As for the possibility that a previously used vm gets used again, we will make sure that only the same user can get logged on again. Thanks.

Thanks for your input. It's highly appreciated!

Re: host_upgrade_patch_esxi_powercli

Thanks Luc,

I am going to check this

however checking the following piece of code again

$update_esxi=Update-Entity-Baseline$baseline_dell,$baseline_dell_patch-Entity$esxi-runasync

        while('Running','Queued'-contains$update_esxi.State){

            Write-Progress-Activity'upgrading host  '-PercentComplete$update_esxi.PercentComplete

            sleep2

        }

        Write-Output"Task '$($update_esxi.Description)/$($update_esxi.Id)' for $($update_esxi.Result.Name) ended with status $($update_esxi.State)"

        Write-Progress-Activity'upgrading host  '-Completed

i thought only following line is sufficient as this is how we define the progress in maintenance mode also (but with do...untill loop)

Write-Output"Task '$($update_esxi.Description)/$($update_esxi.Id)' for $($update_esxi.Result.Name) ended with status $($update_esxi.State)"

also i am thinking if "wait-event "(or any other powershell eqivalent command) has some inbuilt logic to avoid above piece of code

Re: How to ues esxtop to check %RDY

While you are on the CPU tab, press f to check if %RDY is selected to show. By default, it will be the next column to %VMWAIT. Looks like your putty screen is too small or the fonts size is too big. Hence, you are not able to see the next columns.

F should be selected for the %CPU State times to show up in the CPU page. Alternatively, you can use VisualESXTOP which provides a better viewing experience in case you are not a big fan of the command line - VisualEsxtop

Cheers,

Supreet
